MOD Afghan Village

Background - The Ministry of Defence required a robust, anti-slip surface for the roofs of their Afghan Village, a new training facility at their Thetford Battle Range complex.

The facility is specially designed and built to give UK ground forces first-rate training before deployment to Afghanistan, and a great deal of thought has been given to making the soldiers experience as real as possible.

Project - Step On Safety were commissioned to supply FRP Open Mesh Decking for the rooftops of the mock buildings that make up the village.

Activities within the village involve the soldiers using the roof areas, so a robust, anti-slip surface was required to complete the construction.

Solution - An FRP open mesh decking was selected due to its lightweight, zero maintenance and angular cut quartz finish for unrivalled anti-slip.

Core to our success in this project was being able to meet the very tight lead-times involved, supplying the product to the laid down specification and manufacturing the FRP open mesh decking in a desert brown colour in keeping with the village theme.
