While it would be foolish to think that COVID-19 has gone away (the looming winter weather is of concern to many), the Step on Safety offices in Brantham are almost back to normal with most staff now able to come into the office every day.
There are changes in place to keep us all safe – warnings and reminders on every door, a strict rota to use the lunch room, no one making tea for anyone other than themselves, sanitiser and face masks on every desk and meetings with all the windows open - but these are minor inconveniences.  Most importantly, we know that even if we need to work from home again, the systems are in place to enable us to provide a seamless service.

SoS has been going from strength to strength since it was founded 13 years ago and the current crisis doesn’t seem to have put a dent in our success. Most of our GRP Anti-Slip products are used exclusively outdoors so many of our customers were able to keep working throughout the summer.  Our workload is now bigger than ever and we’ve been recruiting new staff to ensure we maintain the quality of service our customers expect. We are one of the area’s largest employers with more than 80 employees. Our newest team members are Amber Dewitt (Construction), Andy Buckingham (Marine, Off-Shore & Overseas), Kerry Wilson (Marketing) and Paul Edwards (Estimator).

“We’re really pleased with the team we’ve been building” said Director, Kevin Webb. “It’s taken a while, but we now believe we have the right people in place to take the business to the next level.”   On the other end of the scale, we celebrated our first 10-year anniversary; Garry Cave (Purchasing) joined us back in 2010.  There was cake!”

Project-wise, site teams have been busy across the UK. Keeping it topical we supplied Anti Slip Tread Covers and Floor to the Nightingale Hospital in London; elsewhere we could be found in:
  • Bristol – installing over 350 square metres of Wash Bay Flooring for Jaguar Landrover
  • Port of Ramsgate – 280 square metres of Anti-Slip Marine Grating
  • Doncaster – 600 square metres of Anti Slip Ramp Gratings for the local canals & rivers
  • Handrailing, Chamber Covers and Access Platforms at the Portobello Water Treatment Works on the South Coast
  • Riser Grating at the Battersea Power Station development
  • 1.8km of Safe Cess Walkways for Network Rail including Lookout Platforms and Handrailings

As we approach winter – slips and trips season – we’ll be even busier, as steps, stairs and walkways are treated with new nosings and tread covers to keep staff, customers and visitors safe whatever the weather.

And, in other news, we’ve enjoyed several lunch time BBQs, had a shiny new sign made for our front gates (which blew back down in the recent storms) and will soon be taking delivery of our first fully branded van!  See it on a site near you any day now.
